The Ministry of Justice has announced this month that employment tribunal fees may be reintroduced. Secretary for the MoJ, Richard Heaton voiced his confidence stating that a fee-based system could be found which does not deny Claimants access to justice.
The case which had resulted in the abolition of the previous fees on the grounds that they were preventing access to justice, did not rule them out completely. The judgement though said that any new scheme would need to allow those who cannot afford to pay fees the opportunity to avoid them.
Heaton said that currently there are no immediate plans in place to reintroduce fees, but he has suggested there is a new fee regime in development
