The Ministry of Justice has recently published the quarterly tribunal statistics for the period between April to June 2018 which continue to show significant growth since the abolition of tribunal fees in July 2017.
The figures are as follows:

  • The number of single claims lodged increased by 165%.
  • Receipts in multiple claims increased by 344%, while disposals fell by 13%, ultimately leading to a 34% increase in caseload outstanding.
  • In terms of representation within the tribunal/ Employment Appeal Tribunal  setting, 74% of employees were represented by a lawyer in 2017/2018 compared to 86% in 2016/2017.
  • In contrast, 17% of employees had no representation in 2017/2018, which is 9% up from the previous year 2016/2017.

Since the launch of the fee refund scheme back in October 2017 and  up to June 2018, 14,500 applications for refunds from employees were received with a total of 14,400 refund payments made, totalling over £10 million.
